Annual Rockwell chicken barbecue draws in hundreds

Rockwell held its annual chicken barbecue on Sunday, August 13, bringing hundreds of people out to Zeidler Park to raise money for the Rockwell Aquatic Center.

The city’s pool board coordinated this year’s barbecue to raise money for the aquatic center. This year’s menu included half a chicken, sweet corn, potato salad, chips, a dinner roll and a cookie all for $10. Hundreds of people showed up throughout the day to get their grilled chicken and sweet corn, and many people took their food home with them in a to-go box.

“There [was] a great turnout and it’s great to have a community event like this,” Brian Koob, a member of the pool board, said.

Residents from Rockwell and surrounding towns gathered around picnic tables to catch up with people they haven’t seen in a while. Among the attendees was Mike Mueth, of Sheffield, who came for the food that was being served.
