Attention paid to abandoned lot in Swaledale

Tax break draws new business to Main Street

Construction of a new furniture restoration and seasonal produce shop will soon begin on an abandoned lot in Swaledale.

Karen and Rusty Seidel will build the business where the Swaledale Catholic Church used to be, at 300 Main Street, according to a press release.

Mayor John Drury said he urged the Cerro Gordo County Board of Supervisors to devote taxes to helping clean up empty lots.

“The abandoned property issue is everywhere,” he said. “And it’s more noticeable in a small town.”
