Cerro Gordo, Franklin county communities receive grants from Mason City foundation

Several communities and local causes within Cerro Gordo and Franklin counties recently received funding from the Farrer Endowment Foundation, a tax-exempt, non-profit corporation in Mason City.

Lloyd J. Farrer and Georgetta V. Farrer of Mason City created the foundation in 1983 to make contributions and gifts to other organizations of a charitable, scientific, literary, educational or municipal nature.

This year, the Swaledale Fire Department received $3,500 for the purchase of extrication cribbing and struts, along with other equipment. The Rockwell-Swaledale EMTs were awarded $4,000.

The Rockwell Community Fire Service received $2,500 for the purchase of a thermal imager. The Sheffield Public Library was given $1,000 to be put toward hardcover books for young children.
