Children's mental health, education highlight productive session so far

Funnel week has come and gone in the Iowa Legislature and now lawmakers have a narrowed focus for the remainder of this year’s session.

Rep. Linda Upmeyer, Speaker of the House, said that this year’s session has included a concentrated focus on healthcare and mental health, particularly for children.

Upmeyer said both the House and Senate are working together to incorporate a multiphased system that would focus on improving mental healthcare for children and young adults.

“Phase 1 will be done this year,” she said. “We will identify the boards that are going to be involved on a regional basis to get that system established and at the same time, we are working very hard to make sure we have providers available.”
