As police investigate, one suspect detained, others suspended

In an effort to quell rumors regarding a recent shooting threat against the West Fork School District, a community meeting was hosted at the high school on May 11.

According to Sheffield Police Chief Sam Cain, on Friday, May 5, a concerned citizen notified local law enforcement of rumors about a shooting threat targeted at the school district and those associated with it. Specific details about the date and location associated with the threat, and number of people involved in it, was unknown.

The Sheffield Police Department and the Rockwell Police Department came together with the district to investigate, and spent May 6-8, interviewing students and assessing the credibility of the threat. No weapons were involved or found during the investigation, and no students were hurt or placed in immediate danger, according to Superintendent Darrin Strike.

By the end of the day on May 8, “the main threat had been contained.” According to a press release issued by the school district on May 14, the primary suspect in the situation had been and still is being detained by law enforcement, and other persons of interest have been suspended from school.
