Daycare in demand

The rural Iowan community holds much appeal for families with young children looking to establish roots: quiet neighborhoods, intimate teacher to student ratios, and lower crime rates, relative to bigger metropolitan areas. While the lifestyle of a family in area like this one may be different than one in, say, New York, the quality of life here is difficult to beat.

However, one shared trouble has arisen amongst parents of young children residing in the district: the need for daycare.

According to West Fork School District Superintendent Darrin Strike, parents of young children have, on occasion, been forced to utilize daycare outside of the district. This may lead to them enrolling the children in school closer to those daycare locations. “It is not in the best interest of our school district to lose students to other preschools and school district due to our communities not being able to support all of the daycare needs,” said Strike.
