Delegates choose McVicker to succeed Plagge on November ballot

Former GOP primary candidate Gary McVicker was the unanimous choice at a special nominating committee held last Friday to replace three-term District II Supervisor Jerry Plagge on the November election ballot.

Plagge withdrew his name from the ballot last week citing personal reasons. McVicker, who lost to Plagge by a three votes in the June primary, was the lone candidate to express interest in the vacant position during the 20-minute nominating convention held at Godfather's Pizza in Hampton. McVicker had mulled running against Plagge as an Independent but will now take his spot as the Republican nominee.

"I'm so involved in the Republican Party right now and it'd be a tough decision to run unaffiliated," McVicker said during his nomination speech. "I think I'm ready to serve the people of Franklin County. I'd love to be the next Republican candidate for supervisor, and I'd love to be the next supervisor for District II."
