Family holds fundraiser benefit for Rockwell cancer survivor

Friends, family, and more gathered in Rudd on Saturday, October 14 to take part in a benefit event for Katie Blackdeer of Rockwell.

Blackdeer is recovering after recently finishing her last treatment of chemotherapy after being diagnosed with a grade four medulloblastoma tumor last January. To help ease some of financial weight of Blackdeer’s medical bills, her aunt and uncle, Carol and Merlyn Schweizer, organized a fundraiser event at the Rudd school building.

The wet Saturday evening didn’t keep people away as the building was packed with more than 200 guests socializing and bidding on the many auction items donated for the benefit.

“It’s great. We couldn’t be more pleased,” said Carol Schweizer during the event.
