Fireworks Fly Over Independence Day Permits

Discussion over fireworks permits created sparks during the regular meeting of the Rockwell City Council on Wednesday, July 2.

     Two private permits to shoot off fireworks over Independence Day weekend were requested by residents. While private individuals shooting fireworks isn't uncommon, council member Mike Flatness expressed a concern about the city officially endorsing the practice.

     "We had an issue with this last year," said Flatness, referring to a small fire resulting in private fireworks during last year's event.

     Flatness also noted that neither resident had filed for an exemption on the city's noise ordinance, though it was presumed by the rest of the council that there would be no complaints.
