Franklin Medical Clinic staff honors long-time doctor

A newly planted silhouette sweet gum tree outside of the Franklin Medical Clinic serves as a reminder of a beloved former employee.

Dr. David Dennis, who served the Franklin County area for nearly 40 years, died after a short battle with cancer towards the end of September. To honor him, clinic staff decided to have a living memorial tree planted outside the hospital’s main entrance. The choice of a gum tree tree was not a random one, but a loving nod to the doctor.

“We chose that because he had a gumball machine in his office and it didn’t take any money, so anyone knew they could go in and get gumballs at any time,” said Jolene McWilliams, a CMA at the clinic who worked with Dennis for more than 30 years. “This was something that reminded us of those gumballs.”
