Generosity leads to chance encounter with Hampton man’s favorite band

Broken down motorcycles and a tattoo led to a dream come true for Corey Spear.

On Saturday, the Hampton resident had the chance to meet the members of his favorite band, Great White, before their performance at the Franklin County Fair that evening.

“I was so excited to meet them,” said Spear. “It was my dream.”

Spear’s encounter with the band was one of coincidence. Hampton native Noel Christensen said he, two members of the band Hericane Alice and a cinematographer were traveling near Hampton filming a video earlier this month when one of the motorcycles broke down. Christensen, who graduated with Corey’s brother, Jeff, called Jeff, who runs JT Machine in Hampton.

Christensen said Jeff and Corey helped the crew get off the road and fixed the bikes so the group could continue on to Columbus, Neb. where the band had a show later that evening. During the repairs, Bruce Naumann, the lead singer of Hericane Alice and an agent with St. Paul-based ARM Entertainment, noticed Corey had a tattoo of the band Great White on his arm. As luck would have it, one of the bands booked through ARM Entertainment is Jack Russell’s Great White.
