After 40 years of service to the Thornton community, Mike Jensen is hanging up the fire boots.

The veteran volunteer firefighter is retiring from the department this year after decades of emergency calls, rescues, and community service.

“It’s been a good relationship with all the guys,” said Jensen. “It’s a good group to be on.”

Jensen has been a member of the Thornton Fire Department for as long as many of its current members have been alive, serving as fire chief since 1984 and continuing to volunteer after passing on leadership in 2012.
