Latham: “It was the honor of my life to represent you”

One of north Iowa’s most well-known political figureheads returned home last weekend for a special ceremony commemorating his 20-year career.

     Alexander native and current Third Congressional District Rep. Tom Latham was honored Saturday night during a special program hosted by the Franklin County Republicans at Sheffield’s Ridge Stone Golf and Country Club. Latham, who represented Cerro Gordo County and other portions of north Iowa for the bulk of his career, is retiring from the U.S. House of Representatives when his term expires at the end of the year.

     Also on hand were other area GOP politicos like House District 54 Rep. Linda Upmeyer, former state senator and representative Merlin Bartz and former state senator and representative Stewart Iverson. The event, dubbed “A Legacy of Leadership,” was emceed by Iowa Senate District 27 candidate Shawn Dietz.

     Latham chatted with guests throughout the evening and also provided a few anecdotes from his career in politics.
