New Council members, same mayor for Meservey

A write-in campaign reelected Richard Miller as Mayor

The town of Meservey held a special election on Jan. 3 to fill the office of the mayor and three City Council seats after abrupt resignations.

There were nine different candidates vying for the four different seats.

Of the 154 registered voters in Meservey, 59 percent—or 91 voters—participated in the election with 14 of them voting absentee.

A write-in campaign for mayor was successful in reelecting Richard Miller as mayor of Meservey with 57 votes. The only other candidate on the ballot for mayor was Lori Schmale, who received 29 votes. Miller had resigned as mayor due to some stress he was experiencing from the duties of the position, but decided to try to regain the position by having his name wrote in, which turned out to be successful. There were also three other write-in votes, for a total of 89 votes for mayor.
