Nov. 4 election features two contested local races

Voters in Franklin County will head to the polls next Tuesday to cast their ballots in the Nov. 4 general election. With only two contested races for local offices, most of the attention will focus on other races at the state and federal levels.

The battle for county treasurer is the only contested race for an elected office in Franklin County. Two-term incumbent Treasurer Chad Murray will square off against Independent challenger Cindy Dirksen, who lost to Murray by a 582-545 margin in the June 3 primary.

The race for Iowa Senate District 27 featuring three-term incumbent state Sen. Amanda Ragan (D-Mason City) and former Hampton Mayor Shawn Dietz, a Republican, is the only other competitive contest with local significance on the ballot. Ragan was uncontested in the June 3 primary election while Dietz defeated Tim Junker of Allisonby a 1,938-1,208 margin.
