Petersen onto medal stand for Warhawks
DES MOINES -- West Fork freshman Kale Petersen became the first medalist for the school since 2016 with a 15-5 major decision of Highland, Riverside's Bryce Thompson on Friday afternoon.
Petersen will wrestle Mount Ayr's Drew Ehlen tonight to decide his place. If he wins, the 106-pounder can do no worse than the fifth-place match.
He joins Jake Hansen and Jarel Arbegast as the only state medalists in school history.
During the match against Thompson, Petersen had his opponent in a precarious position that turned into a reversal, but Petersen scored a takedown and five back points to cap it off.
