Return to Dougherty day

The small town of Dougherty recently had a celebration of the former church and school there, dubbed ‘Return to Dougherty Day.’

“We wanted to invite former students and members of the community back to Dougherty to reminisce and remember what their childhood was like,” said Dennis Campbell, a longtime Dougherty resident who helped organize the get-together.

Campbell and others formed a non-profit group, called the Society To Preserve Antiquated Town Structures, or S.T.P.A.T.S.

The goal of the group was to preserve the 140-year-old Catholic church and school in Dougherty, St. Patrick’s, when it was no longer going to be used. The group bought the structure from the dioceses and has been having the Return to Dougherty Day there for a few years now.
