Rockwell passes new storm sewer surcharge

The Rockwell City Council approved a new storm sewer surcharge during their regular meeting on Wednesday, September 19.

At the meeting, the board held the second and final reading of the stormwater project ordinance. Introduced at the previous meeting, the new ordinance will add a $5 charge to residential utility bills, with an annual increase of two percent, that will go towards the improvement and maintenance of the city’s storm sewer system.

The new charge is projected to generate an additional $822,538 over the next quarter century, presuming the city’s number of billing units remains the same over that period of time.

“We hope that it increases,” said Mayor Mike Flatness.
