Rusting relics: Courthouse statues need repairs to fix rust spots

Franklin County’s beloved courthouse received a splash of new color this summer, but it wasn’t intentional by any means.

 Two copper statues perched atop the 123-year-old structure’s clock tower began rusting significantly following heavy rainfall in June. Rust marks started bleeding down onto the courthouse’s cream-colored façade, which stained portions of the statues’ support platforms. The marks are now visible from the ground and can be seen from a decent distance away.

Courthouse Maintenance Supervisor Tom Porter didn’t mince words when he described the stains.
