Sheffield council agrees to changes in fireworks ordinance

The Sheffield City Council approved changes to the city’s fireworks ordinance during their Sept. 11 regular meeting.

A conversation about adjusting the firework policy within Sheffield started during the July 10 council meeting, when Sheffield resident Doug Dohlman, of 505 Maple St., presented to the council and expressed concern about the unpermitted use of fireworks that occurred in town over the Fourth of July holiday.

At the Aug. 14 meeting, the council requested that the topic of updating the ordinance be tabled until Sheffield Police Chief Sam Cain could research the newest state laws regarding firework use. However, Cain was not present at last week’s meeting, so the council opted to move forward with a decision.
