Sheffield council seeking appointment candidates

The Sheffield City Council took the first steps towards filling a vacant council seat during their regular meeting on Monday, December 10.

Since the last meeting, council member Jim Hegarty decided to resign his position from the council, citing that his schedule was not allowing him the time to effectively serve the position.

To fill the vacancy, the city can either appoint a person to fill the remainder of Hegarty’s term or hold a special election and take the matter to the voters. As special elections can be a costly endeavor, the council has traditionally appointed people and voted to do so in this case. Parties interested in filling the vacant seat can fill out an application at City Hall to be considered at the next meeting.
