Sheffield examines law enforcement options for the city

The Sheffield City Council discussed the future of law enforcement in the city during the regular meeting on Monday, October 8.

Monday was the final day on the job for Officer Colten Kensett, leaving the City of Sheffield with only Police Chief Sam Cain to patrol.

In the wake of Kensett’s departure and unsure about hiring another second officer, the Sheffield City Council invited Sheriff Aaron Dodd to the meeting to discuss contracting out law enforcement responsibilities to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department.

Before the topic could even come up in the agenda, members of the public weighed in on their feelings about the idea of sub-contracting with the Sheriff’s Department.
