Soaked again Second downpour in four weeks causes more flooding issues

For the second time in less than a month, Franklin County experienced widespread flooding following torrential rains.

Last Wednesday evening into Thursday morning, the area had upwards of six inches of rainfall. The rain, coupled with already saturated ground, caused the closure of roads due to standing water and flooded basements.

Thomas Craighton, Emergency Management Coordinator for Franklin County, said crews needed to bring State of Iowa owned pumps to Latimer and Popejoy to remove standing water from city streets. He said a dozen rural roads were closed and two homeowners reported collapsed basements.
