Thornton, Swaledale and Rockwell will welcome RAGBRAI riders

                The 45th edition of the Register’s Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI) will be visiting north central Iowa.

                The ride across Iowa that attracts thousands of bike riders, bike enthusiasts and tourists each year will visit some well known towns in the Cerro Gordo County.

 

Thornton

                On Wednesday, July 26, the party on wheels will embark from Clear Lake and head to Thornton, where the town of about 420 will host the riders for the first time in RAGBRAI history.

                Thornton City Clerk Michelle Duff said the town is excited about it, but not quite sure what to expect, as they have never experienced it through their town before. The town is holding off on making concrete plans until they meet with race officials to get a better feel of the event. Duff said they plan to meet on the second Saturday in April with RAGBRAI officials.

               

Swaledale

                Swaledale has hosted RAGBRAI twice, the last time being in 2010. It will be different than last time as they were the first stop in the morning, and provided breakfast to the riders. This would be changing Swaledale Mayor John Drury said.
