Three candidates running for open Rockwell council seat

A contested seat on the Rockwell City Council will be definitively settled next week with a special election.

The seat, formerly held by Adam Wedmore, was opened last year when Wedmore resigned after being elected to be the Cerro Gordo County Auditor.

In December the council appointed Kevin Zeitler to fill the vacant seat. Zeitler had run for a seat on the council in the previous election and was the next highest vote receiver not already on the council.

“I wanted to run before just to see what it’s like,” said Zeitler. “To see how the city spends their money and if they’re spending it wisely.”

Zeitler would have filled out the remaining three years on Wedmore’s term, however a petition was filed to force the city into holding a special election.
