West Fork School marches against bullying

West Fork middle schoolers were dressed in orange last week, but it wasn’t in anticipation for Halloween. Instead, the students spent the week learning about bullying, how to recognize it, and what to do when they encounter it.

“We’re hoping that this is the catalyst that goes through the year and the future,” said music teacher Jason Grunklee, who spearheaded the week of events.

Throughout anti-bullying week, the students have spent some time in class learning about what bullying is, extending beyond the archetype of shoving kids into lockers and stealing lunch money. Online bullying was also discussed along with behaviors that one might not perceive as bullying until looking at it from another point of view. In addition to recognizing bullying, the program also taught students how to resolve the situation, encouraging them to stand up for others and seek safety in numbers.
