West Fork second graders bop with a sock hop

A near week of school closures due to cold weather left West Fork elementary students with an abundance of energy but the Rockwell campus teachers knew just how to burn that off.

In memoriam of the 60th anniversary of the death of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and J.P. “The Big Bopper” Richardson, West Fork specials teachers rounded up their second graders for an afternoon Sock Hop on Friday, February 1.

“The plane crash in 1959 is important for several reasons,” said music teacher Jason Grunklee. “In my opinion, it is the most impactful moment in all of music history. It touched and affected the lives of millions the world over.”

With music from the era playing in the gymnasium, the second graders took off their shoes for a variety of dances, from The Twist, the Chicken Dance, and even the Hokey Pokey.
