West Fork senior recognizes mother’s cancer battle won

SHEFFIELD – After the first of two final home matches in hand, West Fork senior Sammie Washington thought it was appropriate to honor her mother in between playing her final volleyball matches of her home career.

Surrounded by her senior teammates, Washington approached Kris Loterbauer in the stands with a pink ribbon balloon and a pink plant to present to her complete with a hug and tears in front of the crowd in Sheffield.

“It’s Breast Cancer Awareness month and she had breast cancer two years ago, so we thought it would be nice for her,” Washington said. “I thought I’d be a nice daughter..."
