Young Warhawks explore the STEAM world with new club

On Tuesday afternoons, a classroom at the West Fork Rockwell campus is teeming with the sounds of curious young voices, experiments, and shouts of inquiry as young students engage in West Fork's new STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) club.

The school was pleasantly surprised at the amount of children interested in attending the club, as they had to split the first meeting over two sessions, Jan 16 and Jan 23.

Administered by the Iowa State Outreach Office, the club explored biology in their first meeting, discussing the importance of calcium in the body, and how to obtain that mineral through dairy consumption. The students learned how to read labels on dairy products, including serving size and nutritional facts.
