Actress Emaa Hussen charged in Australia over meth smuggling plot
An actress who once appeared alongside Jason Statham is now at the center of one of Australia’s most serious alleged drug-importation cases. Police say Emaa Hussen, 34, was charged in Sydney after about 320kg of methamphetamine, roughly 700 pounds, was allegedly found hidden in bags of charcoal shipped from Ghana, with a street value put at A$296 million.
The alleged shipment matters well beyond Hussen’s name. Australian Border Force officers are said to have intercepted the cargo and referred it to police, a sequence that points to the way transnational trafficking networks try to disguise heavy consignments inside ordinary goods moving through commercial freight. The Ghana-to-Australia route alleged in this case suggests a highly organized operation, using concealment, long-haul logistics and import channels that can deliver large volumes far from the origin point before detection.

Hussen appeared before the Downing Centre Local Court in Sydney on Thursday, June 18, 2026, where she was refused bail. She is due back in court in August 2026. The importation charge she faces carries a maximum penalty of life imprisonment under Australian law, reflecting how seriously authorities treat commercial-scale meth cases tied to international supply chains.
The evidence now in public view is strongest on the shipment itself, the alleged concealment method and the court process. What remains unproven is the full reach of the network behind it, including each person’s role in the alleged conspiracy and how far the supply line extended beyond the cargo seized at the border. Reports say the case forms part of a larger trafficking operation involving at least one Adelaide couple, indicating investigators believe the Sydney charge is only one piece of a broader syndicate.

Hussen’s acting credits have drawn attention because of the contrast between her screen work and the allegations now before the court. She previously played Naz Mehmet in EastEnders: E20, which began airing on January 8, 2010, and is also known for Redemption, the film in which she appeared alongside Jason Statham. For Australian authorities, however, the focus is on the alleged importation of a commercial quantity of methamphetamine and the criminal network they say moved it through the country’s freight system.
