Anthropic moves Claude Cowork to the cloud for multi-device access

Anthropic moved Claude Cowork to the cloud, extending the agent beyond a single desktop and giving users access across multiple devices. The shift matters because Claude Cowork is no longer framed as a chat window alone, but as software that can sit inside the tools people already use to get work done.

Claude Cowork is Anthropic’s agentic AI system for knowledge work, built to handle multi-step tasks such as research synthesis, document preparation and file management. Anthropic says it is aimed at non-technical workers and is designed to reduce the need to break jobs into many prompts. That makes the product more like workplace infrastructure than a simple assistant, with people able to start a task on one device and continue it on another while moving between files, folders and everyday applications.

The cloud move also raises the stakes for organizations that begin to rely on it across teams. Anthropic has been building a broader Claude lineup around this model, including Claude Code for developers, Claude Tag for Slack-based collaboration and Claude Enterprise for organization-wide deployment with governance, data controls and admin infrastructure. Claude Tag launched on June 23, 2026, Claude Sonnet 5 arrived on June 30, 2026, and Fable 5 was set to become available globally on July 1 across Claude Platform, Claude.ai, Claude Code and Claude Cowork.

Anthropic has tied that expansion to larger business workflows, including finance tasks such as forecasting, variance analysis, close and consolidations. The company says teams can work across Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Outlook, with context carrying between apps, and it has described Cowork as part of a broader push to move from chat-based help to agentic execution in professional work. In its partnership work with PwC, Anthropic said Claude Cowork would extend into the broader workforce by running directly inside spreadsheet, word processing and presentation programs.

That strategy puts Anthropic into a crowded enterprise race with Microsoft, Google and OpenAI, where the prize is not just better answers but control over the software layer where work happens. As Claude Cowork spreads across devices and office systems, the advantage is convenience and continuity; the risk is deeper dependence on one vendor’s stack for research, drafting and day-to-day execution.
