Rockwell Faces Limited Options For Bridge Project
The Rockwell City Council continued working towards restoring the Madison Street Bridge during their regular meeting on Wednesday, March 5.
Before discussing the bridge, the meeting began with a public hearing for the 2014-15 budget.
The budget keeps levy rates the same, with 10.88 per $1000 valuation on residential property and 3.00 per $1000 valuation on agricultural land. With no comments or objections, the council passed the budget for the next fiscal year.
The primary order of business for the evening was the review of Taylor Construction’s bid for the restoration of the Madison Street Bridge. The council did not yet have the fully detailed bid they had expected to have, but were able to look over a more generalized version of the bid.
The council’s main point of concern is the additional cost of lighting the bridge. Unlike the rest of the bridge project, which will receive 80% of its funding from the Department of Transportation, the addition of lights on the bridge is an expense that the city would be completely responsible for.
