Rockwell holds community planning meeting for 2017 RAGBRAI

Members of the Rockwell community came together to start preparing for the 2017 RAGBRAI — which will pass through the town this year — during a planning meeting at the city hall on April 27.

The last time the annual seven-day-long bike ride across Iowa passed through Rockwell was in 2010. This year, Rockwell is a designated meeting town, where riders will spend a large portion of their ride on July 26 eating, drinking and visiting in the town.

Ed Twedt, a former RAGBRAI rider and long-time vendor for the event, presented during last week’s meeting to explain how Rockwell residents can plan ahead for the ride, pick successful vending ideas and raise the most funds for local organizations.

“(I) know what the RAGBRAI riders like, because I’ve done it, and I know what we need in terms of vendors,” Twedt said. “(I) know how to help you guys make money. Something as important as where you place the porta-potties helps you make money.”
