New footage shows rooftop suspect near Charlie Kirk shooting scene
New surveillance video shown in Tony Graf’s Provo courtroom placed Tyler Robinson on the Utah Valley University campus hours before Charlie Kirk was shot, then moved him onto a rooftop overlooking the speaking area.
The preliminary hearing, which was set to run through Friday, centered on whether Robinson, 23, should stand trial for aggravated murder and other charges in Kirk’s killing at UVU in Orem, Utah. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty if Robinson is convicted, making the judge’s probable cause decision a pivotal step in the case before it can move toward trial.
Utah Department of Public Safety Agent David Hull told the court that the video showed Robinson arriving on campus about four hours before the shooting, buying a meal at Chick-fil-A, changing clothes and making contact with Kirk’s staff. Hull said the footage then showed Robinson climbing over a railing onto a rooftop, crouching in a prone firing position with a view of the speaking area, running back across the roof, dropping to the ground and fleeing on foot after the shot.
A former Utah Valley University police officer, Christopher Bagley, separately testified that he found what appeared to be a sniper pad on a nearby rooftop with a clear sightline to where Kirk was speaking.

The hearing also drew attention because Kirk’s widow, Erika Kirk, and his parents, Robert and Kathryn Kirk, attended in person and faced Robinson for the first time in court. Donald Trump Jr. and his wife, Bettina Trump, were also present in the gallery for part of the proceedings.
Judge Graf allowed the unedited clips to be played in court after the defense objected to their public release, arguing they could influence potential jurors. The hearing is expected to continue through the end of the week, with Graf deciding whether the case contains enough evidence to proceed to trial.
