Third teenager charged in Amen Teklay Glasgow murder case
Jurors in the High Court in Glasgow returned not guilty verdicts on Monday, 6 July 2026, in the murder trial over the death of Amen Teklay, the 15-year-old who was found seriously injured on Clarendon Street and pronounced dead at the scene in March 2025.
The police watchdog PIRC opened an investigation into Police Scotland’s decision-making and actions leading up to the killing, with a report due to be sent to the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service when that inquiry ends.
Officers were called at about 10.30pm on Wednesday, 5 March 2025, to reports of a seriously injured person in Glasgow’s Maryhill area near St George’s Cross. Emergency services attended. The boys were masked and brandished a sword and a frying pan during the attack.

The case against the two accused also includes earlier alleged violence. One of the teenagers, who was 16 at the time of proceedings, was involved in a separate assault on Amen on 12 February 2025 on Great Western Road, where Amen was allegedly attacked by three boys and repeatedly punched and kicked. The same accused was also alleged to have been threatening and abusive toward Amen three days before the killing, when he brandished a sword and metal barrier. CCTV and phone footage from 12 February and 2 March 2025 was shown to jurors.
The 16-year-old accused lodged a special defence of self-defence and told the court he believed Amen was going to stab his friend. The other defendant was 17 by the time of the proceedings.

Amen was a pupil at St Thomas Aquinas Secondary School in Glasgow. Police Scotland continued to provide specialist support to his family, and his father paid tribute to him at a vigil after his death. A memorial service was later held with Kingsway Community Connections, the youth charity where he had attended sessions. Amen had moved to Glasgow with his father eight years earlier and was originally from Eritrea.
