Wegovy weight-loss pill goes on sale in UK pharmacies

Private UK pharmacies are listing Wegovy as a daily tablet after the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency approved oral semaglutide on 11 June 2026. The pill is the UK’s first GLP-1 receptor agonist tablet for weight loss and weight management, licensed for adults with obesity or for adults with overweight and a weight-related condition. It is prescription-only and not currently available through the NHS for obesity.

Pharmacy2U lists Wegovy tablets from £79.99 and its injectable Wegovy option from £64.99, while Boots lists Wegovy tablets from £99.00 and the injectable pen from £79.97. Semaglutide is only available on prescription. Private buyers should use a registered pharmacy, and fake weight-loss medicines are being sold online.

The tablet offers a needle-free route. The dose starts at 1.5 mg once daily, then rises to 4 mg, 9 mg and 25 mg, with at least one month at each step, and patients already using the private 2.4 mg weekly injection can switch straight to 25 mg tablets. It must be swallowed whole after fasting for at least eight hours, with no food or drink for 30 minutes afterwards, and the most common side effects are nausea, diarrhoea, constipation and vomiting. The approval rested on the OASIS 4 phase 3 trial, which reported 16.6% mean weight loss at 64 weeks; the established weekly 2.4 mg injection showed 14.9% mean weight loss at 68 weeks in STEP 1.
